Shelling gets close to the Gambier Bay as the Kitkun Bay sends off

Gambier Bay burns rich mixture of fuel oil making smoke
to mask position of ship and Japanese salvos

Gambier Bay takes direct hit and continues to try and
evade Japanese salvos.

As unknown ship continues to lay smoke, Gambier Bay is seen in the
distance listing to the side after taking several hits.



The Gambier Bay takes a water line hit as it sits dead in the water.
(Note smoke going straight up.)
C.O. gives order to abandon ship. Minutes later the Gambier Bay was gone.
